People have sobering realisation after seeing exact location where the Titanic sank

It's been over a 100 years since the Titanic disaster and people are only just coming to the same realisation after seeing the exact location where it sank.

Luxury British cruise liner RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York on 15 April 1912.

At the time, the ship was the most advanced vessel of its kind, operated by the White Star Line.

The disaster took place at 11.40pm on 14 April, when the Titanic collided with an iceberg.

Approximately 1,500 out of the 2,224 passengers and crew died in what became one of the most deadliest on-water incidents of all time.

Sadly, there were only 20 lifeboats on the ship and some of them were launched out at sea completely empty due to disorganisation.

That, combined with the ice-cold temperature of the water, caused more casualties than it should have.

Now, over on YouTube, @HarleyandChase has shared a video showing the exact location where the Titanic sank and people are all saying the same thing.

The video also provided coordinates of 41º43'32”N, 49º56'49”W, around 370 nautical miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Commenting on the post, one viewer said: "The most terrifying thought is that it’s over 2 miles down - directly below you."

A second agreed: "Crazy to think that a little over 12,000 ft below you it’s sitting in complete silence and darkness."

While another shocked person also said: "Wow. This made me sad. Imagine being on the Titanic, looking at nothing but ocean and knowing the ship is sinking.

"I can’t imagine how truly terrifying that was, especially in the dark. Those poor people. May they all Rest In Peace."

Someone else said: "Could you imagine that night, even that constant hum of the ocean swaying would be quiet with how still it was.

"All you can hear is ship tearing itself apart and sinking along with screams, crying, and chatter all around.

"On top of how dark it would be, this would be absolutely horrifying basically relying on only your ears to make sense of what's happening."

More recently, five people lost their lives in the Titan submersible disaster which was supposed to take them down to the wreck of the Titanic on 18 June, 2023.

However, the vessel lost contact just an hour and 45 minutes into the two-hour descent.

The wreckage of the sub was found days later as the passengers were named as OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, 61, British billionaire Hamish Harding, 58, Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his 19-year-old son Suleman.
